Mountain biking of the slopes of the Layon
The Layon is a small river that runs along the bottom of the vineyards
through a tectonic fault, that replicates in relief the ground above
and around, before entering the Loire at Chalonnes. The type of landscape
with picturesque countryside that such a geological formation has
produced was ideal for an area that has been set aside for mountain
biking.
There are 10 circuits of between 15 and 40 km (9 and 24 miles) totalling
200 km (122 miles) that snake between vines, valleys and wooded areas.
With tracks rising steeply up hillsides and then easy going through
vineyards, the signposted routes pass through the main vineyard villages
and hamlets that are typical of the region. Choose which of the trails
to follow and enjoy an exciting day in a perfect setting. www.layon.org
The Choletais and Mauges regions by mountain bike
Since April 2005, 19 mountain bike paths have been established in
this large region southwest of Anjou. 18 loops each 10 to 50 kilometres
long will allow you to discover many different landscapes: the Loire
River, the steep paths of the Evre and Moine Rivers, the Leppo and
Nuaillé/Chanteloup forests, the Chemillé region's ridges, etc.
A 55-kilometre trail from Cholet leads you up to the paths through
the Layon region. There is a trail for everybody, family-friendly
and athletic; look for them in the guide "The Choletais and Mauges
regions by mountain bike."
